A peoplevalue customer story: Civica donate reward points to charity

Civica uses peoplevalue’s reward and recognition solution to enable its employees to donate their reward points to support the India COVID crisis.

The challenge

Civica is one of the UK’s largest software companies, with over 30 years of proven expertise in delivering improved outcomes for public services around the world, and over 5,700 colleagues across the UK, Australia, New Zealand, India, Singapore, Canada and North America. Civica takes great pride in its exceptional team and genuine culture, shaped by their values of Knowledge, Integrity and Action.

Since 2019, peoplevalue has been working in partnership with Civica, supporting its culture and driving employee engagement through its reward and recognition platform, CSTARs, and benefits and discounts platform, CPERKs.

In May 2021, the Civica UK team heard about the devastating effects of coronavirus in India and they wanted to help their friends, family and colleagues by raising money to donate to the charities providing aid. Following an employee suggestion, the Civica team reached out to ask if we could help them with their fundraising mission using our technology.

The solution

CSTARS, powered by peoplevalue, is Civica’s points-based reward and recognition platform. Civica employees are rewarded with points which they spend via a catalogue of over 25,000 products and experiences. To support Civica’s fundraising objective, we set up a charity on the CSTARs platform that appeared in the reward catalogue, making it easy for Civica employees to donate the reward points they had accumulated. When they logged into the platform, employees could simply select the charity and choose to donate a minimum of £1 worth of their points – a quick and easy process that would make a positive impact on the lives of others.

Civica’s goal was to donate £10,000, so each Friday, peoplevalue ran a report to update the Civica team on the running total of donations that had been made. Frequent promotions were also made around the business to encourage employees to donate their points, including a banner featuring the initiative on the CSTARs platform.

The results

A huge sum of £9,914 worth of reward points was donated in total, with peoplevalue rounding it up to £10,000.

Over the course of three weeks, hundreds of Civica employees generously donated their reward points to the cause. A huge sum of £9,914 worth of reward points was donated in total, with peoplevalue rounding it up to £10,000.

Thanks to our flexible technology, we were able to make a simple update to the CSTARs platform which made it possible for hundreds of people to give their well-deserved reward points to a very worthy cause. It was amazing to see people come together and help those in need and we are incredibly proud that we could be a part of it.

“When the devastating second wave of coronavirus spread across India, the Civica team naturally wanted to help their friends, family and colleagues who are based there.

We started a fundraiser to help get essential supplies to where they were most scarce, but we also wanted to look into other ways our people could donate – that’s where peoplevalue stepped in after one of our own employees came up with the idea of being able to somehow donate their reward points.

As one of our UK company benefit suppliers, we reached out to them to see if our people could use their banked reward points as a donation to the cause, and in just hours, they had a solution in place!

It’s been amazing to see our people come together and raise a fantastic amount of money to help those in need, and it further demonstrates our culture of supporting each other, empowering our people, and that as a business, we do listen and we take action wherever possible.”
