People Spotlight – Meet Sales Director, Matt Snare
At peoplevalue, we believe that the people that make up any company are the driving force behind it, that’s why our ethos is ‘it’s all about the people.’ Our team is made up of friendly and professional individuals and, in this special blog series, we’re uncovering some of the names and faces that make up our brand. In our People Spotlight for February, we’re saying hello to Matt Snare, our Sales Director. Find out more about him and his role at peoplevalue below.
Introducing Matt Snare, Sales Director
Matt Snare is our Sales Director. He manages our Sales team and helps us embark on new partnerships with businesses to drive their employee engagement strategies using our technology.
With a degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies, Matt has held a number of sales roles since graduating and worked overseas in Latin America, the Caribbean and the Middle East before joining peoplevalue in 2006, when the business had just 5 employees.
Throughout the past 16 years, he has contributed to the growth of the business, with his passion for our employee engagement solutions and how they can make a real difference to our clients and their culture; seeing him work his way up to his Sales Director Role back in 2017. Matt is a key player in our team and has secured multiple contracts for key clients across all industries.
When he’s not working, Matt enjoys spending time with his partner and daughters as well as travelling, cooking – especially BBQs, open water swimming in the sea and walking in the South Downs near his home in Southsea.
What does a typical day look like for you?
“I try and check in with every member of my team even if it’s just for a few minutes. Whilst this isn’t always possible, I’m keen to stay connected at all times, to understand where they’re at and support them where I can. This has been particularly important over the last two years.
With a focus on sales, I spend a lot of time speaking with prospects and customers. I love the interpersonal aspect of my role – meeting with prospects and, where possible, on a face to face basis. I also spend time each day working with our CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software, managing the team and helping them to achieve sales targets.”
How do you like to start your working day?
“With at least two cups of coffee! I also take a few minutes to review key tasks and my plans for the day or week ahead. In the warmer months, I start early with a quick swim in the sea before work.”
How did you get into your current job role?
“A mutual friend introduced me to Mike Morgan, our founder with regards to another venture he was looking at setting up in Spain which I got involved with given my background and fluency in Spanish. From a keen interest in peoplevalue’s core activities in the employee engagement arena in the UK, I then took on a full-time sales role and the rest is history.”
What is your favourite thing about working at peoplevalue?
“The people and our culture. I have the pleasure of working with some fantastic people; true professionals who work hard but, at the same time, I’m always able to have fun with which leads to a very fulfilling role.”
What one word would you use to describe people value’s culture?
“Positive.”
What do you most enjoy about your job?
“The people – the people I work with and of course the prospects and clients.”
What do you think are the key ingredients that build a highly engaged workforce?
“At the risk of “going salesy”, at its’ core, it comes back to the four enablers of employee engagement. The key for me is openness and the ability to input and communicate readily with team members regardless of role. Also, a positive culture which encourages personal growth and where successes are recognised.
I think it’s important that we don’t just have values but that we live them. That we demonstrate integrity and transparency and that we understand our strategic direction and work collaboratively to meet that goal.”
What is your favourite quote?
“I don’t really have one. That said, with all that’s been going on, I’ve been trying to be more mindful and accepting of certain things that can’t be changed so it would probably be ‘make the most of every day’ not that that’s a quote per se.”
What is your favourite memory from working at peoplevalue so far?
“I have many great memories of working at peoplevalue both directly relating to work and socially with colleagues. My favourites probably relate to some of the social events we’ve undertaken over the years, such as a company barge trip along the Oxford Canal.”
Are there any projects you’ve worked on that you’re particularly proud of?
“I’m proud of every project I’ve been involved with as I know that I’ve given my all to ensure the right result for all clients and have been able to rely on a strong team to support that.”
