The peoplevalue Mo Bros raise over £2,000 for Movember 2019
This month ten courageous peoplevalue men stepped up to the challenge of growing a moustache to raise awareness and money for Movember. While they have had to deal with the questionable early stages of ‘tache growing, funny looks (maybe some teasing from colleagues too) and an itchy top lip, their involvement in the campaign has got us all talking about men’s health.
Introducing the peoplevalue Mo Bros:
Overall, our team has raised £2,095 (this number is still rising)! We are thrilled that so many people have taken the time to make a donation and actively support this very important campaign. A special mention must go to Andy Campbell who has alone raised over £1,100 for Movember. His personal effort to support men’s health and suicide prevention is commendable.
What is Movember?
Movember are a leading charity that has been changing the face of men’s health since 2003. Through their movement, which has now become truly global, Movember has funded more than 1,250 men’s health projects around the world, challenging the status quo, shaking up men’s health research and transforming the way health services reach and support men.
1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and it’s the most common cancer for men in the UK. By 2030, Movember aim to halve the number of men dying from prostate cancer.
Testicular cancer is the most common cancer in young UK men. While it has a 95% survival rate, it’s still absolutely crucial for men to understand the signs, symptoms and get checked if they’re concerned.
Globally, on average, 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day. Around the world, the rate of male suicide is alarmingly high: 6 out of 10 suicides are men. Movember is on a mission to reduce the rate of male suicides by 25% by 2030, by focusing on prevention, early intervention and health promotion.
While the month of November is all about men growing their Mos to raise awareness and money, Movember’s campaign is year-round and the importance of men’s health is incessant. We believe the workplace is a great place to start a conversation about men’s health and drive home just how important it is for men to talk and reach out for support if they need it.
